Built in 1746 by Deacon Timothy Pratt, this charming home boasts many fine original details including wide-board floors and hand hewn beams, wainscoting, a corner
cupboard, a beehive oven, and six working fireplaces.
A full, candlelit breakfast is served in the elegant dining room on fine china.
The spacious guest rooms are romantically furnished in period style featuring four poster and canopy beds, working fireplaces, whirlpool tub, comfortable reading chairs,
cable TV, AC, phone/modem lines, and large private baths.
Relax in our picturesque yard with pretty gardens, inviting sitting areas, 2-person rope hammock, and a handsome two century-old maple tree with swing.
We are located in the heart of the historic district, on the wide gas-lit Main street.
From the B&B take a scenic stroll along the water past the historic homes and scenic views of North and South Cove, Saybrook Point, and Fenwick . Watch the sun set over the ocean, or take a walk at Fort Saybrook Monument Park or out to one of Old Saybook's lighthouses.
We are next door to an old-fashioned ice-cream parlor, tea room & art gallery, and across the street from an old house museum and pillared white church. Beautiful area for walking, bicycling, antiqueing, and scenic drives along the CT River and Long Island Sound. One mile to beaches and CT River Cruises. Beach passes, maps, and advice provided!
Bordered on 2 sides by the CT River & Long Island Sound, Old Saybrook embodies the spirit of a small, charming New England town with a rich seafaring tradition. There is a popular bicycle loop in Old Saybrook which takes you along 10 miles of beautiful coastline and historic homes. There are two public boat launches; 1 is 1/2 mile from B&B and affords great canoe/kayak routes/scenery.
Picturesque Main street is the only gas-lit Main street in CT. Main Street has a brick median w/ gas lights, flowers, brick
sidewalks, quaint shops, 8 cinemas, cafe's, coffeehouses w/entertainment, town green activities. Saybrook Point Park at the mouth of the CT River (1 mile from B&B) affords many things to do as well, including mini golf, an art gallery of local art, a historic walking park, and CT River & Long Island Sound cruises.
Also docked in Old Saybrook during the summer months is the African Queen, and Thayer IV, the 2 boats from the 2 famous
movies: "African Queen" & "On Golden Pond"; as, Katherine Hepburn has made Old Saybrook her home.
For the antiquer, there are 400 antique dealers in a 4 mile stretch in Old Saybrook! There is also the General William Hart House Museum (across the street) and numerous art galleries, boat launches, beaches to walk, 2 lighthouses to explore, a bicycle rental shop, and much more!
In the winter there is the Winter Festival, Saybrook Stroll, Torchlight Parade, and beautifully decorated Main Street and Historic districts. In the summer there is the Old Saybrook Arts & Crafts Festival and Taste of Saybrook. In the fall there is the Harvest Festival and beautiful fall foliage.
